| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Edward B. Schmalzer of McHenry, who |
| 4 | | passed away on September 7, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Edward Schmalzer was born in Chicago on July 16, |
| 6 | | 1916 to John and Josephine (nee Zartler) Schmalzer; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Edward Schmalzer was employed as a traffic manager |
| 8 | | in the petroleum industry, and began his career with Sinclair |
| 9 | | Oil; he also worked for Arco, Atlantic Richfield, and |
| 10 | | eventually retired from British Petroleum in 1975; he often |
| 11 | | told others that the highlight of his career was working from |
| 12 | | his Atlantic Richfield office at Rockerfeller Center looking |
| 13 | | out over New York City; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Edward Schmalzer enjoyed being active in his |
| 15 | | grandchildren and great-grandchildrens' lives, often serving |
| 16 | | as their "taxi service" for their many activities; he loved to |
| 17 | | show his support by attending their school and sporting events; |
| 18 | | a favorite pastime throughout his life was watching sports and |
| 19 | | he often spoke of the thrill he experienced as a young man |
| 20 | | being able to play in a 1933 Junior Softball championship at |
| 21 | | Wrigley Field; most recently, he was a member of Shepherd of |
| 22 | | the Hills Lutheran Church in McHenry; he was active in church |
