| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Harry A. Nevlin, Jr., who passed away on |
| 4 | | August 5, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Harry Nevlin, Jr. was born on June 22, 1919 in |
| 6 | | Alton; his parents were Harry Nevlin, Sr. and Kathryn (nee |
| 7 | | Starkey) Nevlin; he married Alice Jane Brown on April 18, 1959; |
| 8 | | she passed away in 1983; he married Linda K. Heil on January 1, |
| 9 | | 1993 at 12th Street Presbyterian Church; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Harry Nevlin, Jr. graduated from Alton High School |
| 11 | | in 1937 and worked with his father in the family business until |
| 12 | | he enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces in 1941; he |
| 13 | | served for 4 years, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, After his military service, Harry Nevlin, Jr. |
| 15 | | rejoined the family business, H.A. Nevlin Moving and Transfer, |
| 16 | | which his father had started in 1919; he later became head of |
| 17 | | the company until he retired and sold the business in 1986; he |
| 18 | | subsequently worked at various times for Fry-Wagner Industrial |
| 19 | | Movers and Roberts Motors and was a volunteer driver for Saint |
| 20 | | Anthony's Health Center; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, As a member of the Board of Directors of the Upper |
|

| 1 | | Alton Business Association, Harry Nevlin, Jr. was involved with |
| 2 | | organizing the Alton Memorial Day Parade from 1944 until 1992; |
| 3 | | as a volunteer, he picked up flowers from florists for the |
| 4 | | parade every year and was the parade "starter" until 2013; in |
| 5 | | 2001, he served as the Parade Marshal; he also served on the |
| 6 | | Boards of Directors for many other organizations, including the |
| 7 | | Colonial Fife and Drum Corps, the Illinois Mover's Association, |
| 8 | | Illinois Movers Rates and Tariffs, and the Bank of Alton |
| 9 | | Building Board, and was a member of Commercial Travelers; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Harry Nevlin, Jr. was a member of the Masonic |
| 11 | | Orders since 1943; in 2013, he was given special recognition |
| 12 | | for being a 70-year member of the Masonic Lodge; he joined the |
| 13 | | Alton-Godfrey Kiwanis Club in 1951 and was a very active member |
| 14 | | for 63 years; he was also a member of Score, the Alton Little |
| 15 | | Theater, and the Route 66 Association; he also served as a |
| 16 | | volunteer at the Christmas Wonderland light display in Rock |
| 17 | | Spring Park and at First Night River Bend for many years; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Harry Nevlin, Jr. was a long-time member and Elder |
| 19 | | at 12th Street Presbyterian Church in Alton, serving as Head |
| 20 | | Usher for many years until the church's closure in 2011, when |
| 21 | | he joined the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey; |
| 22 | | and
|
| 23 | | WHEREAS, Harry Nevlin, Jr. is survived by his wife, Linda |

| 1 | | Nevlin; 4 children and their spouses, Harry Nevlin, III, |
| 2 | | Kathryn and Dennis Oseland, Susan and Christopher Whitlock, and |
| 3 | | Julia Nevlin; 2 stepchildren and their spouses, Laura and |
| 4 | | Patrick Shansey and Jeffrey and Jean Heil; 4 grandchildren and |
| 5 | | their spouses, Jordan and Melissa Clark, Nicholas Clark, |
| 6 | | Timothy Nevlin and fiancee Ashley Profer, and Charles and |
| 7 | | Olivia Whitlock; 5 step-grandchildren, Sydney and Evan Shansey |
| 8 | | and James, Jayson, and Julia Heil; and 3 great-grandchildren, |
| 9 | | Dalton and Jack Clark and Chloe Nevlin; therefore, be it
|
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
| 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
| 12 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Harry A. Nevlin, Jr.; |
| 13 | | and be it further
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 15 | | presented to the family of Harry Nevlin, Jr. as an expression |
| 16 | | of our sympathy.
