| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Francis William Carlborg of Geneva, who |
| 4 | | passed away on February 1, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Francis Carlborg was born in Evanston on November |
| 6 | | 23, 1928 to Sonja Myrtle and Francis Ulrich Carlborg; he |
| 7 | | graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1946, and |
| 8 | | earned his Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Ripon College |
| 9 | | in 1950, his master's degree in mathematics from the University |
| 10 | | of Illinois in 1954, and his Ph.D. in statistics from the |
| 11 | | University of Chicago in 1964; he was a veteran of the Korean |
| 12 | | War and was posted at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama; |
| 13 | | he married Deane Anne Houlahan in 1955; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Francis Carlborg began his career teaching |
| 15 | | mathematics at Rockford College; he settled in St. Charles in |
| 16 | | 1964, authored a textbook, and began a consulting practice as a |
| 17 | | statistician specializing in risk assessment for food |
| 18 | | additives and pesticides; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Francis Carlborg was a life-long athlete and |
| 20 | | enjoyed tennis, cycling, reading, theater, and bluegrass |
| 21 | | music; and
|
