SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert L. Myers of Moline, who passed away on January 7, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Robert Myers was born on March 21, 1986 in Independence, Missouri; his parents were Julie Burke Myers and Gary L. Myers; and

WHEREAS, Robert Myers attended Knoxville schools, graduating from Knoxville High School in 2004; he later earned his associate's degree from Carl Sandburg College and his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Western Illinois University; he then attended the University of Hawaii and Rutgers University before obtaining his Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa in 2013; while in high school, he was invited to attend the Illinois Teenage Institute with the Peers with Advanced Leadership Skills Program at Millikin University; and

WHEREAS, Robert Myers served his country as a member of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, Robert Myers worked at the Knox County Teen Court for 3 years, having served as juror, defense attorney, prosecuting attorney, and bailiff; he worked as a Digital Media Consultant for the Quad City Times in Davenport, Iowa, worked for security at I Wireless in Moline, and assisted Illinois State Senator Michael Jacobs and Congressman Bobby Schilling on their political campaigns; while in college, he established a book company as owner and operator under the title of Grammy's Books; and

WHEREAS, Robert Myers attended the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg, where he served as a Deacon and participated with the Presbyterian Youth Club and other committees; he was also an Illinois High School Association basketball official and was affiliated with the Masons Davenport Lodge #37 in Davenport, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, Robert Myers enjoyed the outdoors, running marathons, golfing, and fishing; he was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Mallards and Notre Dame sports teams, among many others; and

WHEREAS, Robert Myers was preceded in death by his father, Gary L. Myers; his maternal grandfather, Robert L. Burke; his paternal grandfather, Forrest "Gene" Myers; and his uncle, Robert Myers; and

WHEREAS, Robert Myers is survived by his daughter, Ashlyn Myers; his mother, Julie Burke Myers; his sisters, Jessica Myers and Tiffany Myers; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Burke; his paternal grandmother, Alice Myers; his aunts, Linda (Roger) Lamm, Karen Allen, Debbie (Randy) Shreeves, and Becky (Tom) Nyman; his uncle, Terry Myers; and his many cousins and close friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Robert L. Myers; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Myers as an expression of our sympathy.
