| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of J. Howard Yates, Jr. of Peoria, who |
| 4 | | passed away on January 7, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. was born on September 22, |
| 6 | | 1943 in Evanston to Jess Howard, Sr. and Charlotte R. (nee |
| 7 | | Vavrik) Yates; he married Sharon Oberholtzer on November 30, |
| 8 | | 1963; he later married Diana Lynn Raymond on August 9, 1968 in |
| 9 | | Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; he served his country in the |
| 10 | | United States Army during the Vietnam War; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. worked as a sales |
| 12 | | representative for several different companies including |
| 13 | | Rudkin-Wiley in the Air Shield Division, Merrill Lynch, and |
| 14 | | Traders Realty; he also was the Director of Guest Services for |
| 15 | | the Peoria Chiefs baseball club; he retired in August of 2010; |
| 16 | | and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. a was a member and served as |
| 18 | | President of the South-West Kiwanis Club, board member of the |
| 19 | | Boys and Girls Club of America, program chairman of the Board |
| 20 | | of Realtors, Northwest United Methodist Church member, and |
| 21 | | administrative board member of Northwest UMC; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. was an avid golfer with a |
| 2 | | hole-in-one and an avid bowler with a 300 top score; he played |
| 3 | | tenor saxophone in numerous dance and rock 'n' roll bands, as |
| 4 | | well as the Bradley Friends & Family Band; he enjoyed singing |
| 5 | | in the church choir and coached several of his son Kevin's |
| 6 | | baseball teams; he was an ardent fan of the Peoria Chiefs and |
| 7 | | the Chicago Bears and Cubs; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. was preceded in death by his |
| 9 | | parents; his wife, Diana; and his son, Brian Keith; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. is survived by his sons, Tom |
| 11 | | (Kim) Yates, Daniel Yates, and Kevin (Jennifer) Yates; his 4 |
| 12 | | grandchildren; his great-grandchild; his brother, Dr. Robert |
| 13 | | (Karin) Yates; his sister, Carol (Carl) Allen; his |
| 14 | | mother-in-law, Gertrude Tow; and several cousins, nieces, and |
| 15 | | nephews; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
| 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 18 | | J. Howard Yates, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 20 | | further

| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
