SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are Senate are 
3saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth "Kenny" DeYoung of 
4Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Gurnee, who passed away on 
5September 9, 2013; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung was born on November 24, 1937 to 
7Sam and Myrtle DeYoung; he graduated from North Chicago High 
8School in 1956, where he starred at left tackle and was 
9co-captain of the varsity football team; he also played on the 
10varsity golf team and served as Vice-President of the first 
11Warhawks Letterman's Club; he married Lois Semrau in Coleman, 
12Wisconsin on September 9, 1959 and they settled in North 
13Chicago; they relocated to Gurnee in 1971; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung worked as a structural iron worker 
15and was a life-long member of Local #1, Iron Workers of 
16America; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung was a 6-year member of the United 
18States Marine Reserves; he also served as a volunteer fireman 
19with the North Chicago Fire and Rescue Squad for 10 years; he 
20was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Saint Gilbert 
21Catholic Church in Grayslake, and the Gagewood Lions Club, 
22where he was honored with the prestigious Melvin Jones Award;

1he happily played the role of Santa Claus at the Lions' Annual 
2Christmas Party for 17 years; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung was a loyal fan of the Chicago 
4Cubs and Bears; he enjoyed playing poker with the Warhawk Poker 
5Club and, after his retirement to Las Vegas, at the local 
6casinos; he also enjoyed driving his motor home throughout the 
7West, often hitting Yellowstone National Park and Cubs' spring 
8training games; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung was preceded in death by his 
10parents; his brother, Ed DeYoung; and his sisters, Delores (the 
11late Jerry) Willis and Marcella (the last Sam) Adams; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Kenneth DeYoung is survived by his wife of 54 
13years, Lois; his children, Brian (Sue) DeYoung, Debra (Randy) 
14Blum, and Noreen DeYoung; his grandchildren, Lauryn (Chris) 
15Otero, Lane (Matthew) Magera, Douglas Blum, and John and 
16Rachael Blum; and his great-grandchildren, Caidence and Levi 
17Otero and Skye Magera; therefore, be it
  
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
20Kenneth "Kenny" DeYoung, and extend our sincere condolences to 
21his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
