AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 977 




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 977, AS AMENDED, in 
3the introductory clause to Section 15 of the Bill by changing 
4"Section 8-1403" to "Sections 8-1403 and 8-1404"; and
 

5in the body of Section 15 of the Bill by inserting immediately 
6below the last line of Sec. 8-1403 the following:


 
7    "(735 ILCS 5/8-1404 new)
8    Sec. 8-1404. Interpreter's oath. Before a qualified 
9interpreter participates in any proceedings authorized under 
10Section 8-1403, the interpreter shall make an oath or 
11affirmation that the interpreter will:
12        (1) make a true interpretation from English to the 
13    juror's predominant language and from the juror's 
14    predominant language to English;
15        (2) not interject the interpreter's own thoughts, 
16    beliefs, conclusions, or opinions regarding any

1    interpretation of what the evidence shows, what the 
2    instructions mean, or how the evidence is analyzed as it 
3    relates to the instructions issued by the court; and
4        (3) not express anything as to what the verdict should 
5    be.".
