| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Gary L. Turpin on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his retirement from the practice of medicine; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Gary Turpin has served the people of the City | ||||||
| 6 | of Greenfield and Greene County for 50 years; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Dr. Gary Turpin graduated from Carrollton High | ||||||
| 8 | School and the University of Illinois; after graduation, he | ||||||
| 9 | returned to his native Greene County to establish his medical | ||||||
| 10 | practice at the Fillager Clinic on September 1, 1964; he worked | ||||||
| 11 | every day of his career at the Fillager Clinic, except for 1968 | ||||||
| 12 | and 1969, when he served our nation while assigned to a Mobile | ||||||
| 13 | Army Surgical Hospital in Vietnam; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Gary Turpin has treated everything from bumps, | ||||||
| 15 | bruises, and sore throats to appendectomies and delivering | ||||||
| 16 | babies; he also made house calls for the entirety of his | ||||||
| 17 | career; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Dr. Gary Turpin told the Greene Prairie Press that | ||||||
| 19 | "I've always worked under the assumption that the practice of | ||||||
| 20 | medicine is a sacred calling. Not that I'm sacred, but the | ||||||
| 21 | practice of medicine is and you have to treat the patients with | ||||||

| 1 | a personal touch. Sometimes you have to just sit and talk with | ||||||
| 2 | them and if you pay attention to what they are saying, you will | ||||||
| 3 | learn a lot. I had a professor in medical school who was a | ||||||
| 4 | brilliant fellow and he maintained you should take the time to | ||||||
| 5 | listen to your patients. If you will just sit there and listen | ||||||
| 6 | they will tell you the diagnosis. I've worked under that | ||||||
| 7 | principle all these years."; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Dr. Gary Turpin has touched the lives of hundreds, | ||||||
| 9 | if not thousands, of people in Greene County during his 50 | ||||||
| 10 | years of service; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Dr. Gary Turpin has announced his retirement from | ||||||
| 12 | the medical field effective September 30, 2014; therefore, be | ||||||
| 13 | it

| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 15 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we congratulate Dr. Gary L. Turpin on the occasion of his | ||||||
| 17 | retirement, thank him for his decades of service to the | ||||||
| 18 | community and to our nation, and wish him and his wife, Amy, | ||||||
| 19 | all the best in the years to come; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Dr. Gary Turpin as a symbol of our esteem.
