| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of dedicated | ||||||
| 4 | public servant Alan J. Dixon, who passed away on July 6, 2014; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Alan J. Dixon was born on July 7, 1927 in | ||||||
| 7 | Belleville; he graduated from the University of Illinois in | ||||||
| 8 | Urbana in 1949 and Washington University School of Law in St. | ||||||
| 9 | Louis, Missouri in 1949; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Alan J. Dixon served in the United States Navy Air | ||||||
| 11 | Corps during World War II; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Alan J. Dixon was admitted to the bar and began | ||||||
| 13 | practicing law in Belleville in 1949, the same year he was | ||||||
| 14 | first elected to public office; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Alan J. Dixon served as a member of the Illinois | ||||||
| 16 | House of Representatives from 1951 to 1963 and as a member of | ||||||
| 17 | the Illinois Senate from 1963 to 1971; he served as Illinois | ||||||
| 18 | State Treasurer from 1971 to 1977, and as Illinois Secretary of | ||||||
| 19 | State from 1977 to 1981 before being elected to the United | ||||||
| 20 | States Senate in 1980; he was re-elected in 1986 and continued | ||||||
| 21 | to serve in this position until 1993; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Alan J. Dixon dedicated his life to public service | ||||||
| 2 | and to the improvement of the State of Illinois and all of its | ||||||
| 3 | residents; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Alan J. Dixon served the people of Illinois | ||||||
| 5 | faithfully for over 40 years; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Alan J. Dixon served his State with honesty, | ||||||
| 7 | integrity, and commitment; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Alan J. Dixon was a dear friend to the members of | ||||||
| 9 | this body and to countless others in and out of public service | ||||||
| 10 | in this State; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Alan J. Dixon is survived by his wife, Joan "Jody" | ||||||
| 12 | Dixon; 3 children, Stephanie (Doug) Yearian, Jeffrey (Stacy) | ||||||
| 13 | Dixon, and Elizabeth (Stuart) Megaw; 8 grandchildren; and 6 | ||||||
| 14 | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we mourn the passing of Alan J. Dixon and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 18 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 19 | him; and be it further
