| 2 | WHEREAS, The Libertyville High School Debate Team has had a | ||||||
| 3 | successful 2013-14
season, with great team and individual | ||||||
| 4 | success in both Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas
Debate | ||||||
| 5 | formats; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Both styles of debate require not only the | ||||||
| 7 | development of rhetorical and
analytical skills, but also a | ||||||
| 8 | deep understanding of topics derived only from many hours of
| ||||||
| 9 | independent research and writing; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Libertyville High School recently sent a large | ||||||
| 11 | delegation of 1st and 2nd-year debaters to the Illinois | ||||||
| 12 | Communication and Theater Association State Tournament on the
| ||||||
| 13 | weekend of March 14, 2014; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Sophomore Elizabeth Murphy placed 9th and | ||||||
| 15 | sophomore Ken Wu placed
13th in Junior Varsity Lincoln | ||||||
| 16 | Douglas-Debate, while freshman Alo Garcia-Escobar placed
13th | ||||||
| 17 | in the State in novice Lincoln-Douglas style debate, and | ||||||
| 18 | freshman Manal Ahmed placed 10th in Speaker for Public Forum; | ||||||
| 19 | and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The Illinois High School Association administers | ||||||
| 21 | the Varsity State Debate
Tournament each year, affording | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | experienced high school students the opportunity to compete
| ||||||
| 2 | against the finest quality debaters in the State, this year | ||||||
| 3 | hosted at the University of Illinois-Springfield
the weekend of | ||||||
| 4 | March 21, 2014; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Libertyville High School delegation of | ||||||
| 6 | debaters to the Varsity State
Tournament is composed of juniors | ||||||
| 7 | Ankur Rastogi, Holly Miller, Pooja Sajeev, Aasimah
Tanveer, | ||||||
| 8 | Lucia Zhang, and senior Stevie Zheng; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Coaches Dennis Duffy, Sarah Greenswag, and Brian | ||||||
| 10 | Voss have great pride in
their team's hard work, dedication, | ||||||
| 11 | and success throughout the school year; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 14 | we recognize the talent and
ability of these students and | ||||||
| 15 | coaches and congratulate them on their achievements this | ||||||
| 16 | season; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the Libertyville High
School Debate Team as an | ||||||
| 19 | expression of our esteem and with best wishes for continued | ||||||
| 20 | academic success.
