HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jeff Grant, 
4science teacher at North High School in Downers Grove, on being 
5awarded the 2014 PASCO STEM Educator Award from the National 
6Science Teachers Association; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The PASCO STEM Educator Award recognizes  
8excellence and innovation in the field of science, technology, 
9engineering, and mathematics or "STEM"; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Jeff Grant is one of 5 winners nationwide, and one 
11of only 2 high school teacher recipients; he was selected in 
12part based on his implementation of an innovative 
13"inquiry-based, technology-infused" STEM program for students; 
14and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, One of Jeff Grant's notable projects is working in 
16partnership with the Morton Arboretum to record the DNA 
17sequence of oak trees in their laboratory and preparing samples 
18of sedges for students to analyze; and
  
 
  
19    WHEREAS, As part of his reward, Jeff Grant will receive 
20funding to attend the National Science Teachers Association's 
21national conference in Boston in the Spring of 2014; therefore,

2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
3NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
4we congratulate Downers Grove North High School teacher Jeff 
5Grant on being awarded the 2014 PASCO STEM Educator Award and 
6wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it
