HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The Federation of Indian Associations was 
3established to both celebrate Asian-Indian history and culture 
4as well as to provide a platform and a voice for the 
5Asian-Indian community; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Over the years, the Federation of Indian 
7Associations has taken perceptions and interests about India to 
8the mainstream community and furthered the interests of Indians 
9residing in the United States; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, It is in the spirit of celebrating Asian-Indian 
11culture and its influence in the mainstream community that we 
12gather together with the Federation of Indian Associations to 
13celebrate India's 65th Republic Day; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, India's Republic Day commemorates the historic 
15events that began in
1947 when India gained her independence 
16from British rule and in 1950, formally established the 
17republic's constitution; India's Republic Day also offers a 
18wonderful opportunity for Indian Americans in the northwest 
19suburbs of Chicago to rejoice and celebrate their rich 
20heritage; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, Celebrating India's Republic Day gives all

1citizens a chance to embrace Indian culture and learn more 
2about its history and traditions; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, India's Republic Day remembers the great 
4sacrifices that were made during the struggle for India's 
5independence; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
8we commemorate India's 65th Republic Day; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to the Federation of Indian Associations as an 
11expression of our esteem and respect.
