HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Roger McFarlin 
4for receiving the "2013 Rural Physician of Excellence Award" 
5from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across 
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural 
8settings; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin earned his medical degree in 1969 
10from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and 
11completed his residency in 1971 at the Denver Health Medical 
12Center; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Upon completion of his residency, Dr. McFarlin 
14returned to his hometown of Hillsboro in 1972 to practice 
15family medicine in a rural setting; and
 
16    WHEREAS, For over 40 years, Dr. Mc Farlin has continued to 
17make a tremendous impact on health care delivery in Montgomery 
18County; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin has served on the staff of both St. 
20Francis Hospital in Litchfield and the Hillsboro Area Hospital;

2    WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin has served as the Medical Director of 
3the Hillsboro Area Hospital; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin also worked to improve the quality of 
5life in his community through his service on the Montgomery 
6County Health Board, the TB Board and the Lake Improvement 
7Committee; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin always treats each patient like a 
9member of his family, which makes him the true definition of a 
10family physician; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we commend Dr. Roger McFarlin for his selfless service to his 
14community and the impact he has made on  improving rural health; 
15and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Dr. McFarlin as a symbol of our respect and 
18esteem.
