HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representative wish to congratulate the owners and staff of 
4Record Newspapers on their recent awards; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Illinois' top newspapers were honored at the 
6Illinois Press Association's annual convention, where more 
7than 100 daily and non-daily newspapers competed in 36 
8editorial categories; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Record Newspapers' staff members won 10 awards in 
10the annual Illinois Press Association contest; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, First place honors were awarded to assistant 
12sports editor Christine Bolin Dascher in the category of sports 
13story for her Plano Record article on Jim Green's retirement as 
14Plano High School football coach and to reporter Matt Schury in 
15the category of government beat reporting for his series of 
16articles on the Kendall County Coroner's Office; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Second place honors were awarded to reporter Lyle 
18Rolfe for the Ledger-Sentinel in Oswego for school board 
19coverage, to photographer Joanna Pleskovich for her series of 
20photos of a pumpkin race, and to Sandwich Record for a series 
21of advertisements for Sandwich Chiropractic; and

1    WHEREAS, Third place honors were awarded to Kendall County 
2Record editor Kathy Farren for her editorial on setting a time 
3limit on public comment at government meetings, to the 
4Ledger-Sentinel for general excellence, as well as for best 
5advertisement less than a full-page for Oswego Cyclery; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Honorable mentions were awarded to 
7Ledger-Sentinel editor John Etherredge for his editorial on 
8restricting burning near city limits and to the Sandwich Record 
9for best spot color advertisement for an advertisement from 
10Trinity Women's Health Care; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we congratulate the owners and staff of Record Newspapers on 
14their recent awards at the annual Illinois Press Association 
15contest and wish them continued success in their journalism 
16career; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Record Newspapers staff members as a symbol of our 
19esteem and respect.
