HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Harvest Baptist Church of 
4Oswego on the 50th anniversary of its founding; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Harvest Baptist Church was founded on June 24, 
61963, as an outreach of Claim Street Baptist Church of Aurora; 
7known then as the Oswego Baptist Church, the first service was 
8held on July 7, 1963, at Eastview School in Oswego under the 
9leadership of interim pastor, Reverend Thomas Corkish; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, In January 1966, the Oswego Baptist Church 
11purchased the Oswego Presbyterian Church building and met there 
12until July 1993, when its new building opened at the corner of 
13Plainfield and Douglas Roads; in April 1992, the church was 
14renamed Harvest Baptist Church of Oswego shortly before moving 
15into their new building; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Continued growth warranted moving into another 
17new building in September 2000; the church has seen the 
18addition of a Children's Ministry Wing and 31,500 square feet 
19to house a new sanctuary and foyer area; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Harvest Baptist Church is guided by current pastor 
21Scott Poling, who began working at the church in 1995; and

1    WHEREAS, A weekend celebration, including a service, 
2lunch, family fun, a fun run, and a car show, will be held July 
36-7, 2013, at Harvest Baptist Church; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we congratulate Harvest Baptist Church on the 50th anniversary 
7of its founding; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Harvest Baptist Church as an expression of our 
10esteem and respect.
