HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to honor Dr. Joseph Shanahan on his 
4more than 30 years of service to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital; 
5and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Shanahan, a Burr Ridge resident, has headed 
7the Adventist GlenOaks Hospital emergency department since its 
8opening more than 30 years ago; during this time, he has served 
9as president of the hospital's medical staff and was the first 
10emergency physician to be on the hospital's board of directors; 
11and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Shanahan's depth of experience in dealing with 
13emergency room patients helped him develop the new emergency 
14department at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, which opened in 
152007; he toured more than 20 emergency room departments 
16nationwide and incorporated the best ideas into the new 
17department; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Shanahan is not shy about showing off his 
19Irish heritage; he has been a marcher with the Irish Fellowship 
20in the Chicago's St. Patrick's Day parade for the past 25 years 
21and has been known to come to the hospital dressed as a 
22leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day; and

1    WHEREAS, Since January 2013, Dr. Shanahan has been the 
2executive administrative liaison for Adventist GlenOaks 
3Hospital; he was appointed to his current role because of his 
4dedication to both the community and the hospital; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Adventist GlenOaks Hospital will host an open 
6house on March 21, 2013, at the Hilton Chicago/Indian Lakes 
7Resort in Bloomingdale to celebrate Dr. Shanahan's career; 
8therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11we honor Dr. Shanahan for his more than 30 years of service to 
12the Adventist GlenOaks Hospital community, and we wish him well 
13in his new position as executive administrative liaison and in 
14all his future endeavours; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Dr. Shanahan as an expression of our esteem and 
17respect.
