| 2 | | WHEREAS, Autism spectrum disorders can affect all |
| 3 | | individuals, regardless of racial, ethnic, economic, and |
| 4 | | social groups; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, About 1 in 88 children have been identified with |
| 6 | | an autism spectrum disorder; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, About 1 in 6 children in the United States had a |
| 8 | | developmental disability in 2006-2008; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Autism spectrum disorders are more common than |
| 10 | | pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined; therefore, be it
|
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 12 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
| 13 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the administrators of |
| 14 | | all museums and zoos in the State of Illinois to have a day |
| 15 | | during the month of April, which is Autism Awareness Month, |
| 16 | | dedicated to individuals with autism spectrum disorders for the |
| 17 | | purpose of urging the public to become more aware and educated |
| 18 | | on autism spectrum disorders and to give families with a loved |
| 19 | | one affected by autism spectrum disorder a day where they can |
| 20 | | enjoy museums and zoos at their leisure; and be it further
