SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the passing of Berde Sutchar on December 25, 2012; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar was a lifelong Chicagoland 
5resident, growing up in the Wicker Park and Humboldt Park 
6neighborhoods, raising her children in West Rogers Park, and 
7spending the last 40 years in Evanston; she grew up with her 
8sisters, Adelle and Jeanette, above the family's small store on 
9Chicago's north side on West Armitage; her parents were Hyman 
10and Hilda Scher; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar married Victor Sutchar on July 5, 
121942, and worked in an office during World War II while her 
13husband served in Italy; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar attended Northeastern Illinois 
15University and received her degree in elementary education and 
16taught 5th grade at both Aggissez and Rogers Elementary Schools 
17in Chicago for the next 25 years; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar served several terms as president of 
19the North Shore Chapter of the Council of Jewish Women; she was 
20a member of Beth Emmet Congregation in Evanston; as a 
21descendant of Russian Jews, she opened up her home, especially

1during Pesach to many of the new Russian Jewish immigrants to 
2Chicago; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar was an avid sportswoman; she 
4participated in bowling, golf, and bridge; she passed on her 
5athletic ability to her children and grandchildren who became 
6successful in numerous sports in their own right; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar was married to Victor for 68 years; 
8they had 2 children, Bruce Russell (Ilse Jaeger) and Kenneth 
9Evan (Teresa Kenny) and 5 grandchildren, Averill, Joshua, 
10Solomon, Hana, and Isabella; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL 
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
13Berde Sutchar, and we extend our sincere condolences to her 
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it 
15further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to the family of Berde Sutchar as an expression of 
18our deepest sympathy.
