| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply | ||||||
| 3 | saddened to learn of the death of James D. "Jim" Pittman of | ||||||
| 4 | Aurora, who passed away on December 2, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, James Pittman was born on June 5, 1930, in Aurora | ||||||
| 6 | to Herman and Ellen (nee Roots) Pittman; he attended Bardwell | ||||||
| 7 | Elementary School, Immanuel Grade School, and East Aurora High | ||||||
| 8 | School, where he earned letters in track and football and some | ||||||
| 9 | fame with his quickness and speed; he attended Indiana State | ||||||
| 10 | University and graduated from Aurora College with a bachelor of | ||||||
| 11 | science degree; he spent 2 years in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, | ||||||
| 12 | Oklahoma; he married Doris Kettelson; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, James Pittman returned to Aurora and began | ||||||
| 14 | teaching at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School; he moved to | ||||||
| 15 | West Aurora High School, where he taught biology for 34 years; | ||||||
| 16 | during his time teaching, he coached golf and basketball, | ||||||
| 17 | earning the nickname "Sarge", and earned his master's of | ||||||
| 18 | education degree at the University of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, James Pittman was part owner of the video store, | ||||||
| 20 | "Images on Video", and he sold real estate with McEnroe Real | ||||||
| 21 | Estate for many years, both of Aurora; upon retirement, he | ||||||
| 22 | worked as a starter and marshal at Orchard Valley Golf Course | ||||||

| 1 | for 20 years; he was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the | ||||||
| 2 | Golden Kiwanis, and the National Education Association and he | ||||||
| 3 | enjoyed volunteering at Dryer Medical Center; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, James Pittman enjoyed spending time with his | ||||||
| 5 | family and traveling; his highlight was playing golf at the Old | ||||||
| 6 | Course at St. Andrews in Scotland; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, James Pittman was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 8 | parents, Herman and Ellen Roots; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, James Pittman is survived by his wife of 60 years, | ||||||
| 10 | Doris; his children, Craig (Jan) Pittman, Kristi Hoffmann, | ||||||
| 11 | Scott (Kim) Pittman, and Kim (Tom) Thill; his grandchildren, | ||||||
| 12 | Kyle and Bryan Pittman, Jake, Gavin (Tiffany), CJ Hayes, and | ||||||
| 13 | Andrew Hoffman, Noelle Pittman, and Samuel and Jack Thill; his | ||||||
| 14 | great-granddaughter, Eva Lynn Hayes; his sister, Marijo | ||||||
| 15 | (William) Spick; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | James Pittman, and we extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further

| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
