| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply |
| 3 | | saddened to learn of the death of Little Pony Eagle of Godfrey, |
| 4 | | who passed away on October 31, 2012; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle was born on January 19, 1923, in |
| 6 | | Saint Joseph, Missouri, to Red Eagle and Goldie (Owen) Eagle; |
| 7 | | he received his promotion certificate at the age of 16 from |
| 8 | | Roosevelt Junior High School and was believed to be the first |
| 9 | | true American Indian to graduate from an Alton public school; |
| 10 | | and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle served in the U.S. Army with the |
| 12 | | 5th Bomber Command during World War II in the Pacific Theatre; |
| 13 | | he earned 5 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle was discharged in 1945; he |
| 15 | | attended Shurtleff College and received his degree in |
| 16 | | engineering; he retired as an engineer from McDonnell Douglas, |
| 17 | | where in the 1960s he worked on the Gemini Project; he was a |
| 18 | | Shriner and a 32nd Degree Mason with the Piasa Masonic Lodge |
| 19 | | #27 A.F. & A.M; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle was preceded in death by his |
| 21 | | wife, Hazel (Fines) Eagle; and
