| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Bobbie Johnson; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Bobbie Johnson was a well-known community |
| 5 | | activist; she served as the 3rd Ward Republican committeewoman |
| 6 | | and is known for her unwavering fight to preserve the |
| 7 | | Rosenwald, also known as the Michigan Boulevard Garden |
| 8 | | Apartments, on 47th Street in Chicago; she used many of her |
| 9 | | resources to seek funding for many trips, leadership |
| 10 | | conferences, and outings for youth in the Bronzeville |
| 11 | | community; she also hosted many community events and other |
| 12 | | programs that gave youth and residents of the area a sense of |
| 13 | | being and purpose; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Bobbie Johnson was the president and founder of |
| 15 | | Race to Knowledge and the Cybertech Teen Cafe; she was the |
| 16 | | founder of Save the Rosenwald Coalition and creator of many |
| 17 | | programs, including the Art Zone Literacy Program for Youth; |
| 18 | | she was also the president of Black Wall Street Chicago - 47th |
| 19 | | Street and a member of the Daughters of Isis, the Order of the |
| 20 | | Eastern Star, and the Elks; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Bobbie Johnson was the beloved mother of Larissa, |
| 22 | | Allen Jr. (Melanie), Rafael (Rachel), Tasha, and Erskine; the |
