SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of J. Gordon Hannagan of Gifford, who passed away on October 19, 2012; and

WHEREAS, J. Gordon Hannagan was born on March 12, 1931, in Urbana; he was the son of A.J. and Elizabeth (Gordon) Hannagan; he married Janice Fager on August 25, 1955, in Havana; and

WHEREAS, J. Gordon Hannagan was a graduate of Central High School in Champaign and the Rupert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, Indiana; he also attended the University of Illinois for a year; and

WHEREAS, J. Gordon Hannagan traveled throughout the United States and Canada selling American Quarter Horses at public auction; during his lifetime, he sold over 80,000 acres of land in Champaign County and surrounding area at public auction; he and his wife were the owners and operators of Gordyville, USA, an equine auction and event center; and

WHEREAS, J. Gordon Hannagan was inducted into the American Quarter Horse and Illinois Quarter Horse Halls of Fame; he was an avid horse breeder and trader who had an eye for superior blood lines and raised numerous champions; and

WHEREAS, J. Gordon Hannagan was a member of St. Lawrence Church, the Illinois Auctioneers Association, the National Auctioneers Association, the National Reining Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, and the National Cutting Horse Association; and

WHEREAS, J. Gordon Hannagan was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers and 4 sisters; and his granddaughter, Emily Rae Hannagan; and

WHEREAS, J. Gordon Hannagan is survived by his wife, Janice; his children, Mary Hannagan, John G. "Bud" (Hillary) Hannagan, Patty (Randy) Frerichs, Eddie (Lisa) Hannagan, Jody (Jay) Quiram, and Jimmy (Angie) Hannagan; his sister, Margaret Wheeler; his grandchildren, Lindsay (Travis) Berlatsky, Kate (Travis) Youmans, Jordan Frerichs, Drew Hannagan, Zackary Hannagan, Taylor Hannagan, Jay Gordon Quiram, Rowdy and Cooper Hannagan, Cale Quiram, and Carson Hannagan; and his great-granddaughter, Olivia Berlatsky; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of J. Gordon Hannagan; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of J. Gordon Hannagan as an expression of our sympathy.
