SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Barbara J. Ingram, who passed away on August 13, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Ingram was born on January 26th, 1936, in Chicago; she graduated from Dunbar High School in 1954, where she met her high school sweetheart, Daniel Ingram; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Ingram had a lifetime love of learning and traveling; she worked as a model and was employed at Johnson Publications in the 1950s; in the 1970s, she decided to return to school and started taking college courses at City Colleges of Chicago; during the 1980s and 1990s, she worked for the Chicago Archdiocese Head Start Program and various other social service agencies as an advocate for children from all walks of life; she also worked in the fashion and merchandising industries while operating her own boutique under the guidance and blessing of her dear sister, Dee Ingram Coleman; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Ingram loved to travel and visited Jamaica, Mexico, Amsterdam, Germany, France, and her beloved Bahamas, where she took an annual trip for 30 years; she also loved politics and met numerous elected officials, including former President Bill Clinton and then-Senator Barack Obama; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Ingram is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Ingram; her children, Tracy Lynn, Carla Deniece, and Daniel Ingram Jr.; her nephew, Gerald Simmons, Jr.; her many other family and friends throughout the United States, including her honorary daughter, Illinois State Senator Toi Hutchinson; and the members of her beloved Flossmoor and Country Club Hills senior groups; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Barbara J. Ingram; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barbara Ingram as an expression of our sympathy.
