SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joan Y. "Joanie" Winston of Waukegan, who passed away on June 24, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Joan Winston was born on November 15, 1947, in Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, Joan Winston graduated from Waukegan High School with the Class of 1966; she subsequently earned her teaching certificate; and

WHEREAS, After receiving her teaching certificate, Joan Winston taught preschool at Carmen Elementary School in Waukegan; she later opened Joan's Antique Shop, which specialized in antiques and jewelry; after giving up the shop, she continued to deal in the antique business; and

WHEREAS, Joan Winston was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Yvonne; her father, James Dorsey; her father-in-law, Booker Winston (Mammie); her brother, James Dorsey, Ph.D.; her uncles, Robert Hollingsworth and George Hollingsworth; her brothers-in-law, Donald Winston and Charles Chapman (Henrietta); and several close uncles, aunts, and friends; and

WHEREAS, Joan Winston is survived by her husband, James Winston Sr.; her son, James Winston Jr. (Jamie); her mother, Margaret Dorsey; her sister, Frances Tompkins (Patrick); her brothers, Curtis Dorsey (Barbara) and Marvin Dorsey; her uncles, Fred Hollingsworth, Mel Dorsey, and Dean Dorsey; her aunt, Maria McNulty; her sisters-in-law, Jackie Dorsey and Doris Brunner; her brothers-in-law, Curtis Winston, Ronald Winston, and Gregory Winston; her very close friends, Jill Figgins and Laura Bonds; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Joan Y. "Joanie" Winston; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joan Winston as an expression of our sympathy.
