SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Claire Ann Adkins of Carlinville, who passed away on April 1, 2012; and

WHEREAS, She was born in Richmond Heights, Missouri to Edward and Grace Gallaher Kiely; she attended Saint Louis University, where she was among the first group to graduate from the speech therapy program in 1950; she worked as a speech therapist in St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri public school districts before marrying Gene Adkins on August 2, 1952, whom she met while attending Saint Louis University; and

WHEREAS, Together, she and her husband raised their family in Carlinville, where in addition to being a loving wife and mother, she served on the Carlinville Hospital Board and Auxiliary, was a founding member of CMEC (the Carlinville Marijuana Education Committee), and volunteered as a speech therapist with children with mental disabilities and HEART (reading program for school children); and

WHEREAS, She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bridge, and getting together with her tennis group and friends; she will be remembered always for the grace, strength, and beauty she brought to the lives of all those with whom she came in contact; and

WHEREAS, Claire Ann Adkins is survived by her husband, Gene; her brother, Ray (Jane) Kiely; her sister, Jane Cassidy; her children, Barry, Chris (Bob) Mathias, David (Gail), and Jim (Ellen) Adkins; and her grandchildren, Lexy and Audrie Adkins, Steve, Claire, Mary Beth, and Susie Mathias, Jeff and Greg Adkins, and Ian and Brennan Adkins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Claire Ann Adkins; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Claire Ann Adkins as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
