| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Phillip Norman Benne of Hanna City, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on February 7, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, He was born April 6, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, | ||||||
| 6 | to Harold Charles and Florence Louise (Kilgore) Benne; he | ||||||
| 7 | married Eileen Deborah Huntley in Cahokia on June 8, 1974; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, He came from a law enforcement family; he received | ||||||
| 9 | a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Western Illinois | ||||||
| 10 | University and was a graduate of the Northwestern University | ||||||
| 11 | School of Police Staff and Command; he started out working as a | ||||||
| 12 | police patrol officer for the city of Peoria, later became a | ||||||
| 13 | field training officer, served in the Criminal Investigations | ||||||
| 14 | Bureau, was a K-9 officer with his (4-legged) partner Jock, | ||||||
| 15 | Special Response Team member, and retired in 2008 as lieutenant | ||||||
| 16 | of the Technical Services Division after 30 years of service; | ||||||
| 17 | and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, He received the Life Saving Award, the | ||||||
| 19 | Distinguished Service Award, the American Legion Meritorious | ||||||
| 20 | Service Award, and the Policeman of the Year Award; he was a | ||||||
| 21 | member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) | ||||||
| 22 | Organization and recently was awarded certification as a | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Certified Protection Professional (CPP); he received numerous | ||||||
| 2 | letters of appreciation from the citizens of the Peoria area; | ||||||
| 3 | and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, After retiring, he was hired by Securitas as a | ||||||
| 5 | facilities securities manager for the Downtown Caterpillar | ||||||
| 6 | Campus; he was later promoted to membership in Caterpillar | ||||||
| 7 | Global Security as senior security professional and was then | ||||||
| 8 | elevated by Securitas as the director of U.S. Operations for | ||||||
| 9 | the Caterpillar account; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, He was an assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout | ||||||
| 11 | Troop 155 at Concordia Lutheran School; he was a member and | ||||||
| 12 | chairman of the congregation at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church | ||||||
| 13 | in Peoria, and he loved the Lord with all his heart; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Phillip Benne is survived by his wife, Eileen; his | ||||||
| 15 | parents; his children, Jennifer, Jessica, Jacqueline, and | ||||||
| 16 | Jason Benne; his brothers and sisters, Zachary (Elinor) Benne, | ||||||
| 17 | Linda Bommarito, Tina (Kelly) Folts, Leasa (Robert) Ferry, | ||||||
| 18 | Shelly Stratman, and Harold Benne Jr.; his mother-in-law, | ||||||
| 19 | Adeline Wilson; his sisters-in-law, Jeanne (and Tim) Donald and | ||||||
| 20 | Dawn Huntley; his brother-in-law, Michael Wilson; and his | ||||||
| 21 | numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; | ||||||
| 22 | therefore, be it

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
| 3 | his family and friends, the passing of Phillip Benne; and be it | ||||||
| 4 | further
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to the family of Phillip Benne as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 7 | sincere sympathy.
