SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary Patricia Cullerton of Winfield, who passed away on September 30, 2011; and

WHEREAS, She was born September 16, 1926 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Pearl, nee McGookin, and the late Thomas W. Tyrrell; and

WHEREAS, She met John J. Cullerton Sr. at a roller skating rink when she was 14 years old; together with her husband, an Illinois Bell Telephone Company employee, they raised 9 children in Winfield; and

WHEREAS, She presided over many family gatherings at a summer home on Lake Michigan, The Four Acres, where her family would be joined by aunts, uncles, and cousins; her grandchildren loved winter visits to her Winfield home, where they would sled for hours on a nearby hill and later sip hot chocolate by the fireplace; and

WHEREAS, She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who cherished being directly involved in the lives and activities of her children and grandchildren; she took great pride in helping her children through both high school and college; and

WHEREAS, Mary Patricia Cullerton was the beloved wife of the late John J. Cullerton, Sr.; she was also preceded in death by her sister, Marge Foley; her brother, Thomas R. Tyrrell; her brother-in-law and his spouse and her sisters-in-law and their spouses, James (Lucile) Cullerton, Dotsy (Jack) McMahon, Jane (Richard) Aldworth, and Adele (James) Murphy; and

WHEREAS, Mary Patricia Cullerton is survived by her children, Illinois Senate President John J. (Pam) Cullerton, Jr, Peggy Hosty, Mary Durand, Alice (Jim) Corcoran, Thomas (Susan) Cullerton, Trish (Mike) Lynch, Patrick (Faith) Cullerton, Maureen (Jim) Leffler, and Michael (Kai) Cullerton; her grandchildren, Alice Hosty, the late Robert E. Hosty, Jr., Maggie Cullerton, Molly Durand, John J. Cullerton III, Garritt Cullerton, Matthew Corcoran, Michael Lynch, Miles Corcoran, Kyle Cullerton, Megan Lynch, Geoffrey Wilson, Lindsay Wilson, Brynn Cullerton, Josephine Cullerton, Brendan Cullerton, Neil Corcoran, Tara Cullerton, Bridget Cullerton, Katie Leffler, Kelly Cullerton, Jack Leffler, and Michael Cullerton; her brother-in-law, Thomas Foley and her sister-in-law, Joanne Tyrrell; she was the fond aunt and great-aunt of dozens of nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Mary Patricia Cullerton; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Patricia Cullerton as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
