|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Edmund Morrissey of Godfrey, who passed |
| 4 | | away on September 12, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born September 18, 1926, in Alton to Edmund |
| 6 | | Henry and Emma Miller Morrissey; he graduated from Marquette |
| 7 | | High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Merchant Marines during |
| 8 | | World War II, where he was decorated with the Victory Medal; |
| 9 | | and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Upon his return to Alton, he enrolled at St. Louis |
| 11 | | University before graduating from Washington University's |
| 12 | | School of Engineering; during that time, he met the love of his |
| 13 | | life, the former Therese (Trixie) Louise Woodbury and they |
| 14 | | married on November 27, 1948; they settled into a life |
| 15 | | together, founding and building a business, Morrissey |
| 16 | | Construction Company; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his life he devoted countless hours to |
| 18 | | volunteer his time and talent on many civic boards for the |
| 19 | | betterment of the overall community he cherished and was always |
| 20 | | there for St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he worshipped and |
| 21 | | served for more than 60 years; he had a passion for travel and |
| 22 | | learning about other cultures, most notably the ancient |
|

| 1 | | cultures of Central America, where he was recognized as an |
| 2 | | authority in the field of pre-Columbian antiquities; and |
| 3 | | WHEREAS, His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and |
| 4 | | woodworking; his greatest passion was simply spending time with |
| 5 | | his many family and friends; in addition to being a devoted |
| 6 | | husband and father he rarely missed a youth sporting event or |
| 7 | | activity, he took great pleasure in helping others and |
| 8 | | spreading good will, and touching the lives of countless |
| 9 | | individuals; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and a |
| 11 | | sister-in-law, Mary Josephine "Jody" Morrissey; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Edmund Morrissey leaves behind to cherish his |
| 13 | | memory, his beloved wife Trixie; his children, Ed, Jr. (Patty), |
| 14 | | Mike (Linda), Barbara McGrew (Michael), Tom (Laurie), Jim, Joe, |
| 15 | | John, Teri Holland (Dean), Dan (Kimara), Patrick, and Kathy |
| 16 | | Brandt (Kurt); his grandchildren, Mary Morrissey, Jeanne |
| 17 | | Kirimca, Michael C. Morrissey Jr., Vanessa Bassett, Ryan |
| 18 | | Morrissey, Tom Edmoundson, Micah Spicer, Edmund Q. Morrissey, |

| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 9 | | his family and friends, the passing of Edmund Morrissey; and be |
| 10 | | it further

| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 12 | | presented to the family of Edmund Morrissey as a symbol of our |
| 13 | | sincere sympathy.
