SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Corey Ray Shaw of Du Quoin, a firefighter killed in the line of duty on June 17, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Corey was a press operator at Continental Tire in Mount Vernon and he had been a member of the Du Quoin Fire Department since July 2010; he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin and the Coalbelt Fire Protection Association; and

WHEREAS, He was born August 10, 1988, in Du Quoin, the son of Robert D. and Rosalyn (Short) Shaw; he married Nichole Hoffner on May 30, 2009, in Du Quoin; and

WHEREAS, As a tribute to his sacrifice, hundreds of firefighters and people from the community turned out to remember this brave young man; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son, Cayden Robert Shaw; his paternal grandfather, Robert Shaw Sr.; his paternal great-grandfather, Carl D. Shaw; and his maternal great-grandfather, Amos Bowlin; and

WHEREAS, Corey Shaw is survived by his wife, Nichole; his daughter, Camryn Ray Shaw; his parents, Robert and Rosalyn Shaw; his sister, Megon Provart and her husband, Sgt. Joseph Provart of the U.S. Marines; his niece, Olivia Provart; his paternal grandmother, Esther Keller and her husband, Tom; his paternal great-grandmother, Anna L. Shaw; his maternal grandmother, Marilyn Melvin; his maternal great-grandmother, Lois Bowlin; his mother-in-law, Lori Evers Miller; his brothers-in-law, Nick Evers, Sage Evers, and Seth Miller; his Godmother, Robin Pascoe; his Godfather, Al Martin; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Corey Shaw; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Corey Shaw as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
