SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Glenola Lashley of Chicago, who passed away on March 30, 2011; and

WHEREAS, She was born December 31, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee; her mother was Lena Carr and her stepfather was Tillman Moore; she was married to Lester Lashley and was the devoted mother of ten children; and

WHEREAS, She was Born Again at Tabernacle Baptist Church, an event which she considered the greatest thing that ever happened in her life; a deeply religious lady, she also attended several other churches over the years, including New Friendship, Evangelist Hope Church, Monument of Faith, Comfort Ye My People, and Crusaders Church; and

WHEREAS, She contributed greatly to her community through her work at the S.O.S. House and Brothers Reaching Out, the Garfield Counseling Center, the Chicago Juvenile Advisory Council, Reaching the Mark Foster Care, and other organizations; and

WHEREAS, She also served as LSC President, Block Club President, First DAC Chairperson for the 7th District CAPS Program (Chicago Police Department), Director of the New Friendship Junior Choir, and Vice President of the 17th Ward Democratic Organization, and she was one of the founders of the 7th District Pastors of Englewood; and

WHEREAS, She was employed at Independence Bank; as an Administrative Assistant and later Chief of Staff for the 17th Ward Alderman; and as Community Specialist and District Manager at the Englewood Office of the Chicago Department of Human Services; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Lashley; her mother, Lena C. Moore; her brother, Paul; her sisters, Dicie and Irene; her son, Lee; her grandsons, Akeem and Stephen; and her great-grandchild, Zareia; and

WHEREAS, Glenola Lashley is survived by her children, Robert, Joanie, Joseph (Denise), Lena (Terry), Juanita (Walter), Lester (Pamela), Erick (Theresa), Glenda, and John (Victory); her grandchildren, Andre, Robert Jr., Robin (Darrin), Devin, Rahsaan, Raini, Jerryce (Lee), Jerrita, Joseph, Jasmine, Jamelle, Joseph II, Charmaine, Lateeba, Jamiyla, Brandon, Tyese, Alton, Michael (Tichanti), Rashad, Shadra, Shalah, Rocelia (Demolis), Cornell, Marcus, Rashawn, Malcolm, Walter Jr., Selina, Alexandra, Patricia, Carisha, Latraya, Natasha, Joshua, Ericka, Erin, Erick II, Elden, Samuel III, Shawn, Steven, Kecia, Brijon, Malik, Bridget, and Messiah; her great-grandchildren, Taliah, Faheem, Najah, Devontae, Kayvion, Lee Jr., Aeriyanna, Emmanuel, Jahawn, Joe II, Jayana, Undriya, Jaida, Amiya, Shionta, Dontae, Lamirah, Cameron, Joseph Jr., Jordynn, Alton II, Ra'Jane, Mi''Kiya, Jahnya, Tanya, Tajon, Da'Manise, Da'Mara, Aaliyah, Winter, Zuriyah, Cornell, Arianna, Davion, Jaielle, Lo'Ryan, Epigmenio, Brazil, Jada, Taylar, Jay'Shaun, and Xavion; her brother, Phillip Carr (Cynthia); and a host of other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Glenola Lashley; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Glenola Lashley as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
