| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of John W. Harper of Gifford, who passed |
| 4 | | away on March 21, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born on June 10, 1926, in Gifford, the son |
| 6 | | of Leonard and Nellie (Jeakins) Harper; he attended Gifford and |
| 7 | | Rantoul schools, graduating from Rantoul Township High School |
| 8 | | in 1944; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, He served two years in the United States Army |
| 10 | | during World War II in the Philippine Islands and Japan; upon |
| 11 | | returning home, he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, |
| 12 | | retiring after more than 40 years; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, He was a member of the Gifford United Methodist |
| 14 | | Church, the Penfield-Gifford American Legion Post 1153, and a |
| 15 | | charter member of the Gifford Fire Department; he was also the |
| 16 | | radio operator for the Gifford Fire Protection District; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, John Harper is survived by his sisters, Edith |
| 19 | | Brinker and Edna Bowen; his brother-in-law, Herb Bowen; and his |
| 20 | | niece, Janette Eger; therefore, be it
