SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John Carter Burdon of Washington, Illinois and Charleston, South Carolina, who passed away on January 16, 2011; and

WHEREAS, John Burdon was born on July 27, 1923, in Low Point; his parents were Stephen Malcolm and Beulah Maecrete Banta Burdon; and

WHEREAS, John Burdon served his country as a physician in the United States Naval Reserve during World War II and the Korean Conflict; he served from 1942 to 1963, when he retired at the rank of lieutenant commander; and

WHEREAS, John Burdon attended Knox College from 1940 to 1943 and earned his medical degree in anesthesiology from the University of Illinois Medical School in 1946; and

WHEREAS, John Burdon was the second member in the group of nine physicians in the Associated Anesthesiologists Medical Group; and

WHEREAS, John Burdon enjoyed professional tennis, the Green Bay Packers, the American Ballet Theatre, and Broadway Theater; he joined the Greater Charleston Duplicate Bridge Club in 1996 and achieved the rank of Silver Life Master; he also enjoyed duplicate bridge, tournament bridge, club bridge, party bridge, and playing tennis; and

WHEREAS, John Burdon was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, John Burdon was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Jean Cameron Burdon; and

WHEREAS, John Burdon is survived by his brother, Stephen Banta Burdon; his niece, Katherine Ann Burdon; and his best friend, Lonnie Eugene Stewart; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John Carter Burdon; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Burdon as an expression of our sympathy.
