| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |

John Carter Burdon of Washington, |
| 4 | | Illinois and Charleston, South Carolina, who passed away on |
| 5 | | January 16, 2011; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon was born on July 27, 1923, in Low |
| 7 | | Point; his parents were Stephen Malcolm and Beulah Maecrete |
| 8 | | Banta Burdon; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon served his country as a physician in |
| 10 | | the United States Naval Reserve during World War II and the |
| 11 | | Korean Conflict; he served from 1942 to 1963, when he retired |
| 12 | | at the rank of lieutenant commander; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon attended Knox College from 1940 to |
| 14 | | 1943 and earned his medical degree in anesthesiology from the |
| 15 | | University of Illinois Medical School in 1946; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon was the second member in the group of |
| 17 | | nine physicians in the Associated Anesthesiologists Medical |
| 18 | | Group; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon enjoyed professional tennis, the |
| 20 | | Green Bay Packers, the American Ballet Theatre, and Broadway |
