| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Reverend Dr. Lundy Savage of Champaign, |
| 4 | | who passed away on February 15, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Lundy Washington Savage was born on |
| 6 | | September 21, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee; he attended Judson |
| 7 | | College in Elgin, where he received a B.A. degree in Christian |
| 8 | | Religion; while at Judson, he served as treasurer of the senior |
| 9 | | class and president of the Religion and Philosophy Club; during |
| 10 | | this time, he also served the Lilydale and Shiloh Baptist |
| 11 | | churches of Chicago; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, After graduation he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, |
| 13 | | where he worked with the National and Southern Baptist |
| 14 | | Churches; he married Carolyn Marie Scott of Robbins in 1966; in |
| 15 | | 1968 he was called to pastor the Secondary Baptist Church in |
| 16 | | Dixon, where he served faithfully for 2 1/2 years; Pastor |
| 17 | | Savage was called to Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1971 and in |
| 18 | | 2008, Pastor Savage reached a milestone of 50 years of |
| 19 | | preaching the gospel; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, On February 13, 2011, Pastor Savage reached 40 |
| 21 | | years of pastoral service at Mount Olive Baptist Church; he |
| 22 | | held positions in many civic and Christian organizations, |
|

| 1 | | including: serving as president of the Ministerial Alliance and |
| 2 | | NAACP, as a member of the Better Housing Committee, as chairman |
| 3 | | of the board of the Mount Olive Manor Housing Department, and |
| 4 | | serving as chairman of the Title VII Committee of Champaign |
| 5 | | Schools and the Religious Television Broadcasters; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He served as president of Wood River District |
| 7 | | Congress for four years, president of the Baptist General State |
| 8 | | Convention of Illinois for six years, and Third Vice President |
| 9 | | of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc. for 10 years; |
| 10 | | in addition, Pastor Savage was the proud organizer and |
| 11 | | moderator of the Fellowship District Association; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie |
| 13 | | Savage Sr. and Ruby Dixon; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Savage leaves behind to cherish his |
| 15 | | memory his beautiful and loving wife of 44 years, Carolyn |
| 16 | | Savage; his children, Scott Savage and Christie Dixon; his |
| 17 | | siblings, Freddie Savage Jr. (Yvonne), Alfonso Savage (Rosia), |
| 18 | | Willie Savage (Brenda), Lawrence Savage (Joann), Marqurite |
| 19 | | Toliver (Carl), Virgil Savage, LeRoy Savage, Ronald Savage, and |
| 20 | | Kenneth Savage; his granddaughters, Aliya Savage, Chanel |
| 21 | | Dixon, and Keira Savage; his nieces and nephews; his godson, |
| 22 | | Jason Napper; his loving congregation; and his friends all over |
| 23 | | the world; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 3 | | his family, friends, and congregation, the passing of Reverend |
| 4 | | Dr. Lundy Savage; and be it further
|
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 6 | | presented to the family of Reverend Dr. Lundy Savage as a |
| 7 | | symbol of our sincere sympathy.
