HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Representative Jerry 
4Mitchell on his retirement from the Illinois House; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell began serving in the Illinois 
6House in 1995; after he completes his final term, he will have 
7served 9 terms as state representative; he represents the 90th 
8district, which includes all of Lee County and portions of 
9Ogle, Whiteside, and Henry counties; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell has been a relentless advocate 
11for schools and education; he has been a champion of charter 
12schools and their expansion in the State; he was the Republican 
13spokesperson for the elementary and secondary education 
14committees for numerous years; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell has had a long career in 
16education, serving as a teacher, coach, athletic director, 
17principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent; he 
18graduated with a bachelor's of science from Eureka College in 
191968, and earned a masters' in education administration from 
20Illinois State University in 1974; he received an education 
21specialist degree from Western Illinois University in 1992; he 
22served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960-1964; and

1    WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell has received numerous awards 
2acknowledging his commitment to the citizens of his district, 
3including the Friends of Agriculture Award from the Illinois 
4Agriculture Association, the Reader's Choice Award for 
5"Favorite Politician" by Sauk Valley Newspaper from 2001-2008, 
6the "Champion of Free Enterprise" by the Illinois Chamber of 
7Commerce in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010, and in 2008, he 
8was named Legislator of the Year by the Illinois School 
9Counselors Association; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Rep. Jerry Mitchell is married to Jan, and is a 
11father of three, with three grandchildren; therefore, be it
  
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
13NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
14we congratulate Rep. Jerry Mitchell on his retirement from the 
15Illinois House of Representatives and wish him much success in 
16his future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Rep. Jerry Mitchell as an expression of our 
19respect and esteem.
