HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate State Representative Richard Morthland for his service in the Illinois House; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Richard Morthland began serving in the Illinois House in 2011; he represents the 71st District, which includes portions of Rock Island, Whiteside, Carroll, and Henry counties; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Richard Morthland has been a relentless advocate for taxpayers and a champion of privacy rights for law-abiding gun owners in Illinois; he served on the following committees: Appropriations-Higher Education, Public Utilities, Cities & Villages, Counties & Townships, Adoption Reform, Higher Education, and Veterans' Affairs; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Richard Morthland served on the Rock Island County board, leading the opposition against pay raises for elected county board members while county employees were being laid off; he fought for transparency in county government, leading efforts to expose corruption, waste, and unethical activities; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Richard Morthland has had a career as an educator and family farmer; he received his bachelors degree from St. Ambrose University and is pursuing a second masters degree and has taught courses at Black Hawk College in Moline where he is currently a professor; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Richard Morthland is married to Betsey and is a father of 2 daughters; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Rep. Richard Morthland on his service in the Illinois House of Representatives and wish him much success in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rep. Richard Morthland as an expression of our respect and esteem.
