| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Ruth |
| 4 | | Geyer Lerner, who passed away on October 16, 2012; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner was born on December 8, 1923, in |
| 6 | | Vejprty, in what is now the Czech Republic; as a child, she and |
| 7 | | her family were forced into hiding after the rise of the Nazis |
| 8 | | in Europe during World War II; after the war, she immigrated to |
| 9 | | the United States, attended medical school, and met her future |
| 10 | | husband and love of her life, Herbert Lerner; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner and her husband, both pediatricians, |
| 12 | | had their offices in Hyde Park for over 50 years, where they |
| 13 | | gained sterling reputations as skilled and generous doctors who |
| 14 | | provided free care for low-income patients; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner was committed to the civil rights and |
| 16 | | peace movements; she marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in |
| 17 | | Cicero, Selma, and Washington, D.C.; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Lerner was an accomplished artist and |
| 19 | | musician, playing guitar and singing at peace rallies; her |
| 20 | | guitar playing inspired her son to become a professional |
| 21 | | musician; and |
