HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Ryan Pearce for his many accomplishments in sports; and

WHEREAS, In 2008, while Ryan Pearce was in the 7th grade, he won the 200-meter dash, shot put, and discus events at the IESA 7A State Track Meet in Peoria in May of 2008; in July of 2008, while competing at the USATF National Junior Olympics in Omaha, Nebraska, he placed 2nd in the discus event and placed 10th in the shot put event; in January of 2009, Ryan Pearce competed with the Youth All American Football Bowl on the East Team in San Antonio, Texas; in May of 2009, he competed in the IESA 8A State Track Meet in Peoria, where he once again won the 200-meter dash, shot put, and discus events; during this competition, he broke the State 8A shot put records with throws of (55'9.5" - shot put), and (175'2" - discus); and

WHEREAS, During his freshman year of high school, Ryan Pearce achieved a 1st place victory in the discus event at the 2010 Area Best Track Meet in Decatur; that same year, he competed in the IHSA 1A State Track Meet in Charleston, where he competed in both the shot put and discus events and finished 10th overall in shot; he was also the Track MVP at Villa Grove High School; and

WHEREAS, During his sophomore year of high school, Ryan Pearce placed 4th in shot put and 6th in discus at the IHSA 1A State Track Meet in Charleston; he once again was named Track MVP at Villa Grove High School; and

WHEREAS, During his junior year of high school, Ryan Pearce was a Class 1A 2011 All State Honorable Mention, a 1st Team All-Conference Running Back, and a 1st Team All-Conference Defensive Linebacker; he received the Villa Grove High School Tackle and MVP awards in football; he played on the 2011 Hayden's Classic All-Tournament Basketball Team and was All-Conference in basketball, receiving the Greger Award, and in track that same year; he placed first in the 4x100, 4x200, shot put, and discus events at the Little Okaw Valley All Conference Meet; he placed 1st in shot put event at the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor State Meet in Bloomington; at the News-Gazette All Area Meet in Champaign, he placed 1st in the shot put event and 2nd in the discus event; after an impressive showing at the track sectionals, he competed in the IHSA 1A State Track Meet in Charleston, where he placed 2nd in the shot put event and became the State Champion in the discus event; and

WHEREAS, During his senior year, Ryan Pearce culminated in his appearance at the 2012 USATF National Junior Olympics in Baltimore, Maryland, where he placed 18th overall in the shot put event and 11th overall in the discus event; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, Ryan Pearce broke the Villa Grove High School record of most points scored in one football game with 48, beating the former record of 42 points from 1955; and

WHEREAS, Ryan Pearce has been the recipient of numerous awards for his sports achievements, including the WIXY Athlete of the Week award in 2011 and 2012, the VGHS Tackle Award, the VGHS MVP Award, the VGHS Spirit Award, and the Greger Award; and

WHEREAS, Ryan Pearce serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Ryan Pearce for his many accomplishments and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ryan Pearce as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
