HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sister Elizabeth 
4on the occasion of her retirement as director from St. Bernard 
5Hospital and Health Care Center; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, In 1995, Sister Elizabeth implemented an 
7expansion of the hospital, adding a professional building to 
8the campus to house primary care and specialist providers; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Sister Elizabeth's vision and commitment to the 
10revitalization and economic health of Englewood led to the 
11building of Bernard Place; a 70-unit affordable housing 
12development, Bernard Place won the prestigious Richard H. 
13Driehaus Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Neighborhood Real 
14Estate Project in 2004; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Sister Elizabeth recognized the importance of 
16utilizing the latest advancements in technology to improve the 
17quality of healthcare; under her direction, St. Bernard 
18instituted electronic medical record keeping, barcode-enabled 
19bedside medication verification, state-of-the-art digital 
20X-rays and mammography, and a 128-slice CT system; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, The Pediatric Mobile Health Unit, created in 2003,

1offers free physicals and vaccinations to school kids 
2throughout Chicago's South Side; the Dental Center opened in 
32007, and serves more than 5,000 patients a year; recently, The 
4Clinic at Walmart, operated by St. Bernard Hospital, opened in 
5the Auburn Gresham/Chatham area; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, In a strategic effort to deliver preventive care 
7to low-income families, Sister Elizabeth joined with four other 
8community hospital partners to found Family Health Network in 
91995; it is Illinois' only nonprofit managed care organization, 
10serving families throughout Cook County; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we honor Sister Elizabeth for the work she has done over the 
14years for St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center and we 
15congratulate her on her retirement as director; and be it

17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Sister Elizabeth as an expression of our esteem 
19and respect.
