| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bette Reed on her | ||||||
| 4 | retirement from Conerstone Services, Inc.; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, On January 5, 1981, Bette J. Reed began working | ||||||
| 6 | for Will County
Sheltered Workshop, an organization that is | ||||||
| 7 | today known as Cornerstone
Services, Inc.; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, In her first 7 years at the agency, Bette Reed | ||||||
| 9 | served as
Work Adjustment Training Supervisor, Skills Training | ||||||
| 10 | Coordinator,
Director of Special Projects, and Director of | ||||||
| 11 | Residential Services; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, On May 31, 1988, Bette Reed was named Director of
| ||||||
| 13 | Development, a position she held for the following 18 years; | ||||||
| 14 | and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Bette Reed's dedication to the people who receive | ||||||
| 16 | services at
Cornerstone was further acknowledged when she was | ||||||
| 17 | promoted to Vice-President/Chief Development Officer in 2006; | ||||||
| 18 | and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS During the 31 years she has been employed by | ||||||
| 20 | Cornerstone,
Bette Reed has played a pivotal part in the | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | expansion of services for people
with disabilities in Will and | ||||||
| 2 | Kankakee Counties, including the development
of | ||||||
| 3 | community-based group homes, employment services, day program
| ||||||
| 4 | community services, residential services for children, and | ||||||
| 5 | permanent
supportive housing for people with mental health | ||||||
| 6 | needs and their family
members; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Bette Reed has devoted countless hours to | ||||||
| 8 | fundraising events for Conerstone, coordinating stage | ||||||
| 9 | entertainment for many years during the Festival of Trees, and | ||||||
| 10 | recruiting volunteers for the Celebrity Champagne Luncheon; | ||||||
| 11 | and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Bette Reed's skills as a grant writer are widely | ||||||
| 13 | admired among her peers, as is her leadership roles in | ||||||
| 14 | important community organizations including the Will County | ||||||
| 15 | Continuum of Care and the Southwest Suburban Philanthropic | ||||||
| 16 | Network; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, The revenue generated for Conerstone through the | ||||||
| 18 | many grants written by Bette Reed are vast and have improved | ||||||
| 19 | the lives of numerous people; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Bette Reed will begin enjoying a well-deserved | ||||||
| 21 | retirement from Cornerstone beginning in January of 2013; | ||||||
| 22 | therefore, be it

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 2 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 3 | we honor Bette J. Reed for her 31 years of dedication to the | ||||||
| 4 | mission of Cornerstone Services: to provide progressive and | ||||||
| 5 | comprehensive services to people with disabilities and to | ||||||
| 6 | promote choice, dignity, and the opportunity to live and work | ||||||
| 7 | in the community, and we congratulate her on her retirement; | ||||||
| 8 | and be it further
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to Bette Reed as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 11 | respect.
