| 2 | WHEREAS, The Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team | ||||||
| 3 | won the 2012 NCAA National Championship after beating Syracuse | ||||||
| 4 | by a score of 8 to 6, on Sunday, May 27, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, This is the eighth consecutive year that the | ||||||
| 6 | Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team has played in the | ||||||
| 7 | NCAA National Championship game, which ties the NCAA record for | ||||||
| 8 | consecutive championship games; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, This is the seventh time that the Northwestern | ||||||
| 10 | University Women's Lacrosse Team has won the NCAA National | ||||||
| 11 | Championship in the 8 championship games in which it has | ||||||
| 12 | played; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, The Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team | ||||||
| 14 | has compiled an overall record of 168-9 since its first | ||||||
| 15 | championship season of 2005, including an astonishing 82-2 | ||||||
| 16 | record on its home field in Evanston; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, The Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team | ||||||
| 18 | is the only Division I team from the State of Illinois to win a | ||||||
| 19 | national championship in one of the 20 NCAA-sponsored women's | ||||||
| 20 | sports in the last 30 years; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team | ||||||
| 2 | outscored its opponents in 2012 by a combined total of 307-172 | ||||||
| 3 | and recorded 11 wins over teams ranked in the Top Ten | ||||||
| 4 | nationally; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Northwestern University is the only school in | ||||||
| 6 | Illinois fielding an NCAA Division I team among the 92 women's | ||||||
| 7 | teams and 61 men's teams in Division I; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Senior Shannon Smith, the reigning National | ||||||
| 9 | Player of the Year, completed her collegiate career by scoring | ||||||
| 10 | 2 goals against Syracuse, which made her the second leading | ||||||
| 11 | point scorer in NCAA tournament history and also made her the | ||||||
| 12 | Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team's all-time | ||||||
| 13 | leader in goals scored, with 254; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Winning NCAA women's lacrosse titles has become | ||||||
| 15 | routine for the Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team; | ||||||
| 16 | and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, The success of a great team can always be traced | ||||||
| 18 | to a great coach; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller of the Northwestern | ||||||
| 20 | University Women's Lacrosse Team now holds the NCAA women's | ||||||
| 21 | lacrosse records for most coaching victories and the best | ||||||

| 1 | winning percentage in the NCAA National Tournament; therefore, | ||||||
| 2 | be it
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 4 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 5 | we congratulate and commend the Northwestern University | ||||||
| 6 | Women's Lacrosse Team on its seventh NCAA National Championship | ||||||
| 7 | in the last 8 years and its victory over Syracuse; and we wish | ||||||
| 8 | the team members continued success in the future; and be it | ||||||
| 9 | further

| 10 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 11 | presented to Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller and to Athletic Director | ||||||
| 12 | Jim Phillips as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
