HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Set to formally launch in September of 2012, Green Apple is a new initiative that aims to take the green schools movement into the mainstream; through Green Apple, the United States Green Building Council is undertaking a bold mission to create green schools for all schoolchildren within this generation; and

WHEREAS, Each year, thousands of members of the Center for Green Schools' expanding network give more than 208,000 volunteer hours in support of green schools; green building professionals, educators, parents, and students everywhere have come together to voice their support for better school buildings, healthier facilities, and cost-saving sustainable practices through education and outreach, community events, advocacy campaigns, and more; and

WHEREAS, On September 29, 2012, the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council will host the first-ever Green Apple Day of Service; for one day, green school advocates from across the country and around the world, including USGBC Staff, Chapters, and Students, international green building councils, elected officials, teachers, parents, students, and more, will come together in support of green schools by taking real action in their communities; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage all schools within the State of Illinois to support the Green Apple initiative and to take all possible steps to make the schools of this State more environmentally friendly; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the United States Green Building Council as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
