| 2 | | WHEREAS, The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began following |
| 3 | | the attacks on United States soil on September 11, 2001; and |
| 4 | | the members of the Illinois House of Representatives are proud |
| 5 | | to honor the men and women who serve, and have served, in our |
| 6 | | nations' armed forces; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The war on terror represents a global military, |
| 8 | | political, legal, and ideological struggle against |
| 9 | | organizations designated as terrorists or presented as posing a |
| 10 | | threat to the United States and its allies; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Illinois National Guard, the United |
| 12 | | States Air Force, the United States Navy, the United States |
| 13 | | Army, and the United States Marines have served in Iraq and |
| 14 | | Afghanistan with the goal of defeating terrorist organizations |
| 15 | | and defending United States citizens at home and abroad; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, The war in Afghanistan, "Operation Enduring |
| 17 | | Freedom", consisted of 3 phases: toppling the Taliban, |
| 18 | | rebuilding the Afghan state, and a turn to counterinsurgency |
| 19 | | whereby United States forces protected the population from |
| 20 | | Taliban attacks and supported efforts to reintegrate |
| 21 | | insurgents into Afghan society; and
|
