| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the East St. Louis | ||||||
| 4 | Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., on its | ||||||
| 5 | 70th anniversary; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 by | ||||||
| 7 | 22 students at Howard University; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma | ||||||
| 9 | Theta Sorority, Inc. is observing its 70th anniversary, coming | ||||||
| 10 | to East St. Louis on June 6, 1942 in the form of Gamma Eta | ||||||
| 11 | Chapter; in keeping with Delta's mandate at the sorority's 1958 | ||||||
| 12 | national convention, Gamma Eta became the East St. Louis | ||||||
| 13 | Alumnae Chapter; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS,
The East St. Louis Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta | ||||||
| 15 | Sorority, Inc., is one of the cultural, civic, and social | ||||||
| 16 | mainstays of the community, using the sorority's Five Point | ||||||
| 17 | Programmatic Thrusts-Economic Development, Educational | ||||||
| 18 | Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical | ||||||
| 19 | and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Chapter members use their collective strengths to | ||||||
| 21 | promote academic excellence, to provide scholarships, to | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | provide support to the underserved, to educate and stimulate | ||||||
| 2 | participation in the establishment of positive public policy, | ||||||
| 3 | and to highlight issues and provide solutions for problems in | ||||||
| 4 | their communities; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The multi-million dollar Delta Child Development | ||||||
| 6 | Center is one of the economic and educational jewels of the | ||||||
| 7 | metropolitan area and serves as a chapter example of economic | ||||||
| 8 | development and educational development; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The goals and objectives set by the 9 forward | ||||||
| 10 | looking women, represented by surviving Charter Member Abbie | ||||||
| 11 | Lou Hampton Martin, are being met; chapter members continue to | ||||||
| 12 | use education, religion, fortitude, and sisterhood to bring | ||||||
| 13 | those goals and objectives to fruition; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 15 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we congratulate the East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta | ||||||
| 17 | Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., on the occasion of its 70th | ||||||
| 18 | anniversary and wish the membership many happy years to come; | ||||||
| 19 | and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma | ||||||
| 22 | Theta Sorority, Inc. as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
