HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to honor people who have 
4contributed to the State of Illinois in ways that improve the 
5lives of others; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Phil Jones joined the Logan Square Advisory 
7Council in 1996, after serving as a T-ball coach for his 
8daughter, Amy, and her team; as a result, he became involved in 
9the creation of new park facilities, including the bathrooms 
10and baseball diamonds; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Phil Jones started fundraising for the park 
12district and established a bank account as well; the district 
13started movies in the park, candlelight bowling, T-shirt sales, 
14and anything that would help raise money; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1999, working with then Illinois Senator Lisa 
16Madigan and then Alderman Billy Ocasio, Phil Jones began the 
17renovation of Haas Park; in 2007, with the help of the Logan 
18Square Neighborhood Association, the Trust for Public Lands, 
19and Alderman Manny Flores, he secured land west of Haas Park, 
20which enabled the park to expand; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, In 2008, he represented Haas Park at the World

1Park's Summit held in downtown Chicago on a panel discussion 
2concerning fundraising; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, To this day, Phil Jones continues to work, helping 
4start a Garden Club, keeping the Park programs going, and 
5working wherever he is needed; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
8we thank Phil Jones for all his hard work and commitment to 
9Haas Park and the Logan Square area; and be it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to Phil Jones as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
