HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The children of the State of Illinois should have access to the highest-quality schools possible; and

WHEREAS, Citizens throughout the State of Illinois believe that improving the quality of education in the State and expanding access to highly-effective schools should be an issue of importance to our State's leaders; and

WHEREAS, The members of this body recognize the critical role that an effective and accountable system of education plays in preparing the children of this State to be successful in a global economy; and

WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has a multitude of high-quality public schools, public charter schools, and non-public schools; and

WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has many high-quality teaching professionals in public, private, and charter schools who are committed to educating children; and

WHEREAS, The vital cause of education reform is one that transcends ideology and political party affiliation; and

WHEREAS, Research performed in the State of Illinois and throughout the nation demonstrates conclusively that providing children with multiple schooling options improves academic performance; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the week of January 22-28, 2012 as Illinois School Choice Week in the State of Illinois and call this observance to the attention of the citizens of this State.
