HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the residents of 
4the Village of Arlington Heights on the occasion of the 
5village's 125th anniversary of incorporation in 2012; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights was incorporated 
7on January 18, 1887 with a population of approximately 1,000 
8residents; many of the early inhabitants of the Village were 
9farmers, but the village soon became one of the earliest 
10commuter suburbs after the completion of the train depot; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights continued to grow 
12and experienced an increase of residents in the years following 
13the founding of the Arlington Park Race Track after World War 
14II; the 1950's and 1960's were a time of widespread growth due 
15to the expansion of the Chicago-area economy and the increase 
16of automobile sales; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Today, the Village of Arlington Heights is the 
18largest community in Chicago's northwest suburbs, with the 
19village's 75,101 residents spread throughout the village's 17 
20square-mile area; with its excellent access to trains, 
21expressways, and O'Hare International Airport, the village 
22maintains its popularity with commuters; and

1    WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights is renowned for 
2its outstanding school districts and park district, vibrant 
3cultural scene, progressive village planning, and small town 
4charm; the downtown area is a popular destination where 
5residents and visitors can explore a variety of new additions, 
6including the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, movie 
7theater, retail shops, and numerous award-winning restaurants; 
8the 5-acre Lake Arlington, golf courses, and neighborhood 
9parks; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights is home to the 
11Arlington Park Race Track, a world-class thoroughbred race 
12track that is home to the "Arlington Million", which features 
13outstanding thoroughbred horses from several continents; and

  
 
14    WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights' Northwest 
15Community Hospital was named one of the 50 best hospitals in 
16the nation for the treatment of cancer and digestive disorders 
17by the U.S. News & World Report; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
19NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
20we congratulate the residents of the Village of Arlington 
21Heights on the occasion of the village's 125th anniversary of 
22incorporation and wish them continued success and happiness in

1the future; and be it further
  
 
2    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
3presented to Arlington Heights Mayor Arlene J. Mulder and the 
4Arlington Heights Village Board as a symbol of our esteem and
