HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are proud to remember the men and women who 
4serve, and have served, in our nation's armed forces; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, On November 11, 2011, we will once again take time 
6to honor our veterans; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Schools across the State of Illinois need to take 
8the time to instruct students about the battles and conflicts 
9that our servicemen and servicewomen have been a part of over 
10the years; children need to be made aware of the great 
11sacrifices that have been made to keep our country free; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The Battles at Lexington, Yorktown, Shiloh, 
13Gettysburg, and others are important parts of our history; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The American Revolutionary War, the French-Indian 
15Wars, the War of 1812, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, 
16World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, 
17Desert Storm, and the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan 
18have produced brave men and women who fought valiantly for this 
19nation and gave their lives to preserve its values and 
20freedoms; and

1    WHEREAS, The Teacher Resource Guide for Veterans Day 
2contains information about: the Yellow Ribbon Program, the 
3Honor Flight Network, veterans service organizations, 
4respecting the flag, and folding the flag; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
6NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we urge teachers in the State of Illinois to use the Teacher 
8Resource Guide to teach their students about  Veterans Day and 
9the many important aspects of this special day in the United 
10States.
