HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of 
4Steamfitters Local 439 in Caseyville on the occasion of the 
5organization's 100th anniversary; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Steamfitters Local 439 was created on August 12, 
71911, when John Alpine, General President of the United 
8Association of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the 
9United States and Canada, chartered the Local in East St. 
10Louis; Local 439 resided in East St. Louis until September of 
111987, when the Local's new union hall was built and named the 
12Donald J. Bailey Building after the organization's retired 
13business manager; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The members of Steamfitters Local 439 have built 
15countless structures in the State of Illinois, from hospitals 
16to schools to steel mills to powerhouses; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, The members of Steamfitters Local 439 have donated 
18many thousands of man hours to their communities; the Local has 
19raised funds for numerous charitable causes, including 
20multiple sclerosis research, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance 
21Burn Camp, the United Way, St. Vincent DePaul in St. Louis, 
22Missouri, the Caseyville and Fairview Heights Police

1Departments, and the Hollywood Heights and Fairview Heights 
2Fire Departments; the organization has also assisted military 
3units, including the United States Marine Corps' 1st Light 
4Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and the 3rd Platoon "Road 
5Warriors" / 561st Engineer Company at Joint Base Balad in Iraq; 
6and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Steamfitters Local 439 prides itself on its health 
8and welfare, pension, annuity, and training programs, which it 
9provides to its members at no expense; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, The members of Steamfitters Local 439 serve as 
11models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people 
12of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
15we congratulate the members of Steamfitters Local 439 on the 
16occasion of the organization's 100th anniversary and wish them 
17continued success in the future; and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to the members of the Steamfitters Local 439 as a 
20symbol of our esteem and respect.
