| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate United States Navy | ||||||
| 4 | Captain John Malfitano as he is relieved of his duties as | ||||||
| 5 | Commanding Officer of the Naval Station Great Lakes; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Captain Malfitano is a native of Pearl River, New | ||||||
| 7 | York; he graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelor | ||||||
| 8 | of Engineering in Engineering Science and was commissioned | ||||||
| 9 | through the Aviation Officer Candidate School program in 1986; | ||||||
| 10 | he was designated a Naval Aviator in 1988 and reported to | ||||||
| 11 | Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 120 for initial | ||||||
| 12 | training in the E-2C Hawkeye; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, He served in VAW-123 "Screwtops" embarked in USS | ||||||
| 14 | America, completing 3 deployments with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) | ||||||
| 15 | 1, including combat operations during Operation Desert Storm; | ||||||
| 16 | he also served as an instructor and training landing signal | ||||||
| 17 | officer, an Assistant Officer in Charge, served in combat | ||||||
| 18 | operations during Operation Desert Fox, and commanded the | ||||||
| 19 | Seahawks; during his time as Commanding Officer, the VAW-126 | ||||||
| 20 | was selected as recipient of the Commander, Naval Air Force | ||||||
| 21 | Atlantic Battle Efficiency Award and the Commander, Naval Air | ||||||
| 22 | Forces RADM Frank Akers Award for AEW Excellence as the finest | ||||||
| 23 | E-2C Hawkeye squadron in the Navy; he was subsequently selected | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | by his peers for the Navy-Marine Corps Leadership Award; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Ashore, he has served as Flag Aide-de-camp for the | ||||||
| 3 | Commander Naval Training Center, Great Lakes; he earned a | ||||||
| 4 | Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic | ||||||
| 5 | Studies with Highest Distinction from the Naval War College, | ||||||
| 6 | receiving the President's Honor Graduate Award; he was assigned | ||||||
| 7 | to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations as an action | ||||||
| 8 | officer for the VCNO-charted information technology group, | ||||||
| 9 | Task Force Web; he attended the Joint and Combined Warfighting | ||||||
| 10 | School at the Joint Forces Staff College; and he most recently | ||||||
| 11 | served as a Joint Staff Officer for NATO's Supreme Allied | ||||||
| 12 | Commander Transformation in the Strategic Engagement and | ||||||
| 13 | Vision Branch; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Captain Malfitano has accumulated over 4,400 | ||||||
| 15 | flight hours and more than 500 arrested landings on 10 | ||||||
| 16 | different aircraft carriers; he has earned the Defense | ||||||
| 17 | Meritorious Service Medal, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 3 | ||||||
| 18 | Strike/Flight Air Medals, the Joint Service Commendation | ||||||
| 19 | Medal, 8 Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (3 with | ||||||
| 20 | combat "V"), and the Navy Achievement Medal; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Captain Malfitano and his wife, Victoria (Vicki) | ||||||
| 22 | are the proud parents of Joseph Elias and William Jacob; and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, The formal Change of Command Ceremony will be held | ||||||
| 2 | on July 15, 2011 at the Naval Station Great Lakes; therefore, | ||||||
| 3 | be it
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 5 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 6 | we congratulate Captain John Malfitano and wish him continued | ||||||
| 7 | success for years to come; and be it further
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 9 | presented to Captain John Malfitano as a symbol of our respect | ||||||
| 10 | and esteem.
