HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The International Herb Association has declared 
3the horseradish "2011 Herb of the Year"; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Collinsville produces approximately 60% of the 
5world's horseradish each year;  Southern Illinois grows 80%-85% 
6of the world's horseradish each year; and
  
 
  
7    WHEREAS, Since 1988, the International Horseradish 
8Festival has attracted visitors from around the world; proceeds 
9from the festival have helped organizations build playgrounds, 
10assist children with disabilities, and purchase sporting 
11equipment; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The International Horseradish Festival has 
13received recognition in 2007 as the "Best Fest" by the 
14Riverfront Times and has been featured nationally on the Travel 
15Channel's Taste of America; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, On June 4-5, 2011 the City of Collinsville will be 
17celebrating the "Year of the Horseradish" at the 23rd annual 
18International Horseradish Festival; therefore, be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
20NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we recognize the International Horseradish Festival Committee 
2for their achievements, exemplary work, and continued success 
3in hosting the annual International Horseradish Festival; and 
4be it further
  
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6presented to the International Horseradish Festival Committee 
7as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
